PROLIGHT + SOUND 2018: OUR TOP TECH HIGHLIGHTS
Putting event technology firmly in the spotlight, Prolight + Sound returned to Messe Frankfurt in Germany for four jam-packed days of product launches, events and networking opportunities. With numerous halls of audio and lighting technology, the show providing a comprehensive overview of the latest industry trends and technologies whilst also offering a huge range of lectures and presentations. Our Asset Operation Manager Adrian Searle headed over to the show to get clued up on the latest innovations hitting the technical production scene in 2018. Adrian talks us through his top Prolight + Sound highlights.
The talk of the show from a lighting perspective was the official launch of the new range of control systems from MA lighting - the grandMA3 lighting console series. Announced earlier this year, the grandMA3 was shown to the public for the very first time at the show. The system features ground-breaking concepts from top industry visionaries, presented within a refined user interface, and is designed to make practical tasks more intuitive. With over 13 fully staffed grandMA3 demo stations, it was great to get hands-on with the consoles and see this radical re-think first hand.
Philips Vari-Lite VL2600
The show saw Philips Vari-Lite launch a new family of LED sourced lighting fixtures based on one of its best known products, the VL2500. The New VL2600 family certainly looks to be an impressive line-up with Spot, Wash and Profile in the range. The great news is that all models share common parts so they’ve been engineered for easy maintenance.
The folks over at Robe are renowned for their show-stopping and spectacular stand designs and Prolight was no exception. Complete with an amazing live Circus show, the manufacturer displayed a huge array of innovative and exciting new products. Robe’s incredible new MegaPointe “all-in-one” fixture took centre stage working alongside Tarrantula, their powerful LED beam, wash and effects fixture. The unique design of the stand, along with their live entertainment shows, definitely secured Robe a top spot in my show highlights.
Dante AVIO Adapter
My gadget of the show has to be the Dante AVIO adapters. With Dante becoming the more dominate protocol, the big question has always been how do you integrate audio products that are not Dante enabled? That’s not an issue now that the AVIO adapters have arrived. These cool pieces of kit can take a network connection and then convert the Dante to various audio formats. Given the relatively low cost, I can definitely see these becoming a bit of a “Get you out of jail” device.
