TOP 5 WAYS YOU CAN USE PROJECTION TO GIVE YOUR EVENT THE WOW FACTOR
Looking to liven up your next conference? Want to excite your guests with extraordinary experiences? Searching for a new way to bring your brand to life? Then say hello to projection!
Now it’s true that projection is in no way new to the scene, but here at Hawthorn, we’re always coming up with innovative ways we can use technology to make sure your event stands out from the crowd. With projection, it really is true that your only limitation is your imagination (ok, apart from maybe a suitable surface to project upon) so we’ve shared our top 5 ways you can integrate projection into your next event.
1. THINK BEYOND THE SCREEN
If you’re looking to liven up your next conference and looking for a unique twist beyond the traditional conference set-up, then projection is the answer. We’re not just talking about projecting your content onto a screen behind your speaker, but thinking creatively about how you can present the same information in a new engaging way to spice up the delegate experience.
We were recently tasked by A&I Events to deliver full technical production for CEF LIVE 2017, including the design and delivery of an innovative floor projection surface which captivated delegates during conference sessions. The unique design enabled us to create content reinforcing imagery, enhance presenter walk-ons and transform those on stage into a variety of different environments.
2. CREATE INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCES
Event organisers are always on the hunt for new ways to immerse their guests and ensure their event is one to remember. With the fast-paced developments in video technology, such as D3 and Notch, we can create tactile brand experiences that have never been seen before.
This year’s Adobe Summit EMEA 2017 saw us work with agency Taylor Bennett Partners and media studio BAJT to create an interactive projection mapped waterfall for a ‘Digital Landscape’ themed party. The stunning installation invited partygoers to put a special stick into the virtual ‘water’ and watch it react to their touch. You can see it in action and read more about the tech behind the waterfall here.
3. MAKE YOUR CONTENT THE STAR OF THE SHOW
Everyone’s heard the adage ‘Content is King’ and no more so than in the world of live events. Creating excellent content takes time so you want to make sure that when it’s delivered, it has the maximum impact on your audience. Whether it’s creating a super-sized projection surface or using the latest 4K projectors to make sure you see every detail, there are now more ways than ever that we can make sure your content stand out.
4. MAKE MARVELLOUS MOMENTS WITH PROJECTION MAPPING
Projection Mapping uses everyday video projectors, but instead of projecting onto a flat screen, light can be mapped onto any surface, turning normal everyday objects into interactive displays. Whether you’re looking transport your guests from an exhibition hall into the middle of a tropical rainforest or make an iconic building undulate before exploding, with projection mapping the possibilities really are endless.
Earlier this year we delivered stunning projection mapped content onto the side of St John’s Chapel for their prestigious May Ball. All content was produced in-house by Hawthorn’s experts and began with a Victorian Botanical Garden themed countdown sequence that saw the building growing into an overgrown greenhouse covered in blooming flowers and dandelions. The main show featuring spectacular 3D architecture manipulation, with the lighting throughout the court programmed to match the projected content, creating an astounding guest experience.
5. GET THE VERY BEST OUT OF YOUR VENUE
You’ve no doubt spent a long time finding your perfect venue, and probably a large portion of your budget, so you want to make sure you get the very best out of it. Whether you want to make the most of the limited space within an intimate space or you want to bring to life a quirky feature, the use of projection at an event can help you take full advantage of your venue.
Aiming to inspire the next generation of top photography talent, the Adobe Creative Meet Up London took place in the stunning Shoreditch Studios. Tasked by Taylor Bennett Partners to deliver technical production within the intimate space, we used projection mapping to deliver content directly onto the venue’s curved walls. Not only did this make the most of the small space by removing the need for an additional projection surface, but due to the curvature of the wall, it also created an immersive, 3D-effect for the audience.
