We’ve once again been out on the road with music legend and former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler. Supporting his ninth studio album, the ‘Down the Road Wherever’ world tour kicked off in April 2019, with Hawthorn supplying lighting and rigging equipment to the UK and European performances.

Hailed by many as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Mark Knopfler has sold in excess of 120 million albums across his Dire Straits and solo career, with hits including ‘Money For Nothing’, ‘Sultans Of Swing’ and ‘Walk Of Life’.

Having supported the artist on his 2015 tour, our Concert Touring division has once again worked with lighting designer Mark Henderson, along with operator Tellson James, to supply lighting equipment to the hugely-anticipated shows. This included Martin MAC Viper Profile and Aura XBs, GLP Impression X4 Bar fixtures and Chauvet Professional Nexus AW 7x7 fixtures.

Talking about the decisions behind the rig, Tellson James said “The advantage of the Nexus is that you can put effects across them and the pixel mapping on them is really effective. Also on the rig we have a selection of GLP impression X4 Bar 20s. With the zoom ability they have, they give a nice curtain of light and I’ve been able to create some amazing looks with them.”

A High End Systems Hog 4 was chosen for control with James commenting “I’ve been with the Hogs for a very long time and they do everything I need. There is no timecode on this one and I’m firing all the content manually.”

Mick Freer, our Head of Concert Touring, said “It’s been fantastic to continue our relationship with Mark Knopfler. It’s a privilege to be involved with an artist of his stature and as a live music experience, he sets the bar pretty high. It’s also been a pleasure to supply equipment to the specification of Mark Henderson. He’s really passionate about what he does and takes a collaborative approach to ensure he gets the right equipment to deliver his design. The end result is stunning.”
