WINTER LIGHTS FESTIVAL 2019

CANARY WHARF

THE BRIEF

Winter Lights, a spectacular festival of light installations and interactive art, returned to London’s iconic Canary Wharf in January 2019. The festival draws upon state-of-the-art light technology to deliver spectacular artworks, installations and experiences – many of them interactive or responsive – and has continued to gather pace with bigger and brighter installations every year.

We were tasked with building two self-climbing structures for the festival, one for an installation in Montgomery Square and another at Cubitt Bridge.

THE EXECUTION

We supplied self-climbing structures to two installations, an immersive, walkthrough light experience by Squidsoup called ‘Submergence’ and  ‘Whale Ghost’, a monumentally-scaled kinetic sculpture by creative studio PITAYA.

Our expert rigging team worked closely with the artists to meet their exacting specifications and deliver a custom rigging solution.

OUR CLIENT SAID

“The Winter Lights Festival can be a complicated project. This year saw the need for two large truss installations that needed to support two very different works. Conversations were had on initial designs, site meetings refined the design and then everything changed when the artist changed their minds. Undeterred, new elements were added and built and we ended up with the correct product for the job. The event was a great success and everyone left very happy.”
